Journalist attacked by party members whiles hosting a program

Journalists are essential in ensuring that citizens have access to accurate and unbiased information about current events. However, in many countries, journalists are not only met with challenges, but they are also met with violence while performing their duties. The recent attack on a journalist while hosting a program is a stark reminder of the danger that journalists face every day.

 

The attack has been widely condemned by journalists and media organizations, with many calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. The Minister of Interior has also issued a statement, urging the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to book.

 

This is not the first time that journalists have been attacked while performing their duties. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), more than 1200 journalists have been killed globally since 1992, and only 10 percent of those cases have resulted in convictions. The attacks on journalists are a violation of press freedom, and they have a chilling effect on free speech and democracy.

 

Journalists must be able to carry out their work without fear of violence or intimidation. The government must take action to protect journalists and ensure that those who commit acts of violence against them are held accountable. It is also important for the media and civil society to continue to speak out against attacks on journalists and to advocate for press freedom.
