Sene East: Landlord and his boys attack a nurse for switching on light

In the heart of Ghana's Bono East region lies a remote area called Sene East. Here, a group of dedicated nurses bravely accepts the challenge of serving their community, despite the daunting obstacles they face. These unsung heroes sacrifice their comfort and wellbeing to save lives, yet their efforts often go unrecognized and unappreciated. Today, we shed light on the challenges faced by nurses in Sene East and their relentless commitment to the people they serve.

with its remote location, presents a significant challenge in attracting healthcare professionals. Only a mere 20% of nurses willingly accept postings to this area, leaving a shortage of medical personnel. The nurses who do accept these postings are driven by a deep sense of purpose, knowing that their presence can make a difference in the lives of the people in this underserved region.

These nurses work tirelessly day and night, attending to the medical needs of the community. They sacrifice time with their families, personal comfort, and access to modern amenities. The dedication they exhibit in the face of adversity is truly commendable. Yet, it is disheartening to see that their sacrifices often go unnoticed.

Despite their unwavering commitment, nurses in Sene East find themselves caught in a cycle of unappreciation. The community, struggling with high living costs, increases rent prices, making it even harder for these nurses to sustain themselves. The escalating food prices further exacerbate their financial burdens, leaving them to make difficult choices between their own well-being and their duty to the community.

Recently, a shocking incident took place, highlighting the mistreatment of nurses in the district. A nurse residing in Bassa faced physical assault when the landlord, infuriated by a switched-on light, orchestrated an attack against him. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the lack of respect and recognition faced by nurses, who often endure such acts of aggression without recourse.

It is imperative that the communities in Sene East recognizes and values the selfless contributions of their nurses. These brave individuals put their lives on the line, working diligently to provide vital healthcare services. In return, they deserve fair treatment, respect, and support from the community they serve.
